Five things to look out for on Friday
How many singles players will end the day in not just one Olympic final, but in two? At the start of Day 7 of this nine-day tournament, there were five singles players still involved in the doubles competitions. Andy Murray, due to play Novak Djokovic in the semi-finals, will later reappear to partner Laura Robson in their mixed doubles quarter-final. Juan Martin del Potro, who is Roger Federer's semi-final opponent, is also playing mixed doubles, alongside Gisela Dulko. And both Serena Williams and Victoria Azarenka, who play against each other in the singles, have other engagements later in the day. Serena will be playing women's doubles with her sister Venus, while Azarenka is still involved in the mixed doubles with Max Mirnyi. Kirilenko faces Sharapova in a singles semi-final, which is a battle of the Russian Marias, and will then partner Nadia Petrova in the women's doubles. Federer, Sharapova and Novak Djokovic are the only three left in the singles draws who are still in only one competition.

But there are some interesting matches to be played on the second largest show court. It is quite possible that Maria Sharapova could be beaten by her friend and countrywoman Maria Kirilenko. Later, Andy Murray and Laura Robson will be attempting to reach the semi-finals of the mixed: to do so, they must beat Australia's Sam Stosur and Lleyton Hewitt.
