Supporting
Locally, the Wimbledon Foundation is supporting a number of community arts initiatives in Merton and Wandsworth this year including:
- Fifty Faces of Merton, a portrait exhibition celebrating young people and showcasing the borough’s diversity, organised by Wimbledon BookFest. This exhibition will tell stories of 50 young people to mark the 50th anniversary of the borough.
- A Soldier’s Tale, a cross-arts project between the Wimbledon International Music Festival and Merton Music Foundation delivering music and art workshops in Merton primary schools.
The Wimbledon Foundation also engages in, or facilitates, support for a variety of other local community and charitable projects in Merton and Wandsworth. Some recent examples include:
- support for the Wimbledon Guild Village Summer Fair (a community event run by the local charity Wimbledon Guild) and the Southfields Christmas Lights
- donation of nets from The Championships to grass court venues around the UK and the Will to Win Foundation
- food donations to Wimbledon Food Bank, CARAS in Tooting and The Vine Project in Merton
- donation of computers to Mercy Foundation, World Heart Beat Music Academy and CARAS
- donation of plants from The Championships to UK charity Groundwork
- in conjunction with Slazenger following The Championships, disposal of surplus tennis nets and balls for use by the local authorities, schools or clubs.
“We wanted to say a huge thank you for donating nets the Club is no longer using. We will be making sure that kids across London get to use these to get more people playing. This is a great example of how tennis' biggest tournament gives back to community tennis.”
