Business as usual for Errani and Vinci
Top seeds Sara Errani and Roberta Vinci cruised into the third round of the ladies' doubles competition after a routine win over South Africa's Natalie Grandin and Vladimira Uhlirova of the Czech Republic.
The Italian pair reached the quarter-finals in the event last year and raced to a 6-2, 6-3 win on Court No. 6. The victory would have been some consolation for Errani, who as No.5 seed in the singles draw, lost in the opening round in straight sets to Monica Puig. However, her partner and No.11 singles seed Vinci, is competing in the third round on Saturday.
Elsewhere, there was progress for the No.2 seeds in the other half of the draw. Lucie Hradecka and Andrea Hlavackova made light work of Georgia's Oksana Kalashnikova and Jana Cepelova of Slovakia, winning 6-1, 6-1 on Court 7.
American pair Raquel Kops-Jones and Abigail Spears, who made the last eight of the event in 2012, secured a straight sets 6-1, 6-1 victory over Sandra Klemenschits of Austria and Romina Oprandi of Switzerland.
