Creative spirit behind Official 2013 Poster comes to Wimbledon

What does Wimbledon mean to you? That is what Blue Peter and the All England Club asked the nation's children in a competition to design the official poster for The Championships 2013.

Entrants were asked to make sure they included the iconic purple and green colours, the dates of The Championships, the word 'Wimbledon,' and above all, be striking, original and capture what Wimbledon means to them and why it is such a unique sporting event.

No easy task. But thousands of children aged between six and 14-year-olds put pen, crayon and paint to paper, and sent in their entries.

The judging panel, which consisted of representatives from BBC Sport, Blue Peter and the AELTC and was chaired by AELTC Chairman Philip Brook, deliberated long and hard over the entries, before selecting eight-year-old Priya Eardley's original design as the template for the poster.

Priya, who confessed she was inspired by the happy nature of the players at Wimbledon in her creation of a tennis player, visits Wimbledon on the Middle Saturday, and will be on Centre Court for the action.

The full list of winners was as follows:

6-8 age category  Priya Eardley

9-11 age category  Bethany O’Dell

12-14 age category Jennifer McDowell

You can see the Official 2013 poster in/at:

  • The Championships programme
  • On outdoor media sites in The Queue and around the grounds
  • Features on Live @ Wimbledon
  • All players and media will receive a copy

You can also purchase the poster in the Wimbledon Shop and the official Wimbledon Online Shop.
