Mixed doubles defeat for Mirnyi and Hlavackova
Jean-Julien Rojer and Vera Dushevina provided the shock of the day in the Mixed Doubles competition as the Dutch-Russian partnership knocked out fourth seeds Max Mirnyi and Andrea Hlavackova.
It was an impressive 7-6 (3), 6-3 win on Court 18 for the unseeded pair against 1999 Mixed Doubles champion, Mirnyi, and Hlavackova, a finalist in the Ladies' Doubles event last year.
The reward which awaits them in the third round is a meeting with Spain's David Marrero and Japan's Kimiko Date-Krumm.
Elsewhere, American's Liezel Huber and Marcelo Melo, of Brazil, advanced through to the next stage stage of the competition after Rajeev Ram and Francesco Schiavone retired at 4-0 in the first set. They could play Australian partners, John Peers and Ashleigh Barty or ninth seeds Treat Huey and Raquel Kops-Jones next.
11th seeds Marcin Matkowski, of Poland, and Czech player Kveta Peschke beat America's Abigail Spears and Israel's Andy Ram, 7-5, 7-5, to set up a meeting with fifth seeds, Alexander Peya and Anna-Lena Groenefeld.
It was also a routine day at the office for top seeds, Bruno Soares, of Brazil, and America's Lisa Raymond. The pair raced to a comprehensive 6-2, 6-3 win against Slovakia's Filip Polasek and Janette Husarova. The Mixed Doubles favourites face a tricky test against Denmark's Frederik Nielsen and Sweden's Sofia Arvidsson next, following their victory over Croatia's Ivan Dodig and Marina Erakovic.
