Czech girls make it a double double victory

The No.1 seeds Barbora Krejcikova and Katerina Siniakova of the Czech Republic continued their dominance in the Girls’ Singles Championship, defeating the No.8 duo Anhelina Kalinina and Iryna Shymanovich 6-3, 6-1. Without dropping a set throughout The Championships, Krejcikova and Siniakova claimed their second straight major title together, having won the French Open earlier in the season.

Serving to start, Kalinina and Shymanovich quickly raced to a 40-15 lead in the opening game before Krejcikova and Siniakova battled back to get to deuce. The No.1 seeds would get to a break point opportunity, although a ball hit into the net erased the chance. The game later stretched to five deuces and lasted over six minutes before Krejcikova and Siniakova successfully broke for the 1-0 lead.

With Krejcikova serving next, Siniakova hit a forehand volley winner to go up 15-0, finishing the game with an unreturned serve to make it 2-0.

Continuing to show calculated aggression and play befitting the top seeds and reigning Roland Garros champions, Krejcikova and Siniakova earned another break of serve against their opponents for the 4-1 lead.

Helped with an ace and an overhead smash winner by Siniakova, Krejcikova held for 5-1 as her opponents continued to mistime shots and were forced into going for low percentage plays that resulted in errors.

Serving for the first set though, Siniakova faltered. She quickly lost the game to love as the No.8 seeds preyed off their opponents' nervousness and struck penetrating shots to force mistakes.

But the No.1 seeds fought back, earning their first set point up 5-3. A missed return from Siniakova, however, erased the opportunity. Another chance, however, didn’t go wasted as an error from the No.8 team donated the set in 23 minutes.

On serve until 2-1 in the second set, the No.1 seeds turned up their level of play another notch to break Kalinina’s serve as the Ukrainian hit a double fault.

With the 3-1 lead, and Krejcikova serving, the pair from the Czech Republic continued to dominate, racing to a 4-1 lead in 19 minutes.

Serving for the Championship, Siniakova wouldn’t lose serve as in the first set, although it was anything but a routine hold. She struck a cross-court backhand winner that landed inside the service line and showed deft shot making at net to earn three match points.

Those, however, would be denied.

With the first four attempts at winning erased, Krejcikova and Siniakova ultimately prevailed. When a backhand winner down the line hit by Krejcikova set up a fifth match point, a missed overhead smash from Shymanovich ended the Championship in an hour and a minute.
