Join in with the Great British Tennis Weekend

The first ever Great British Tennis Weekend, a way for everyone to enjoy free tennis, is taking place at 39 park sites across the country this weekend (17-18 August 2013), to encourage people inspired by an incredible 12 months in British tennis with Grand Slam victories and London 2012 medals.

People of all ages and abilities can just turn up to play with equipment and coaching provided for free. Lots of activities will be on offer including Cardio Tennis – a fitness inspired work out on court – adult social tennis,  women only sessions, LTA Mini Tennis for three to ten year olds as well as short tennis – a scaled down version of the game.

Prime Minister, David Cameron said: “Nothing inspires people into sport more than seeing heroes like Andy Murray win against the best in the world.  So it’s great that after this incredible Wimbledon victory the LTA is holding a Great British Tennis Weekend to encourage people of all ages and abilities to take part in the game for free.”

Judy Murray said: “This is a great idea and one that I hope will encourage many new people to come out and try tennis. There's a huge buzz around our sport just now and offering tennis for free at local park courts across the country is definitely the way forward. I’ll be heading down to one of the park sites to join in the fun for sure.”

LTA Chief Executive Roger Draper said: “We want to give people a chance to try out tennis, really enjoy it, and then come back for more, even in Autumn and Winter. You can book in advance or just turn up on the day and play for free, so the Great British Tennis Weekend will be easy to take part in, and should be great fun.”
