The Championships, Wimbledon has been shortlisted in three categories at the 2014 BT Sport Industry Awards.
The official Wimbledon iPad app, a unique experiential proposition rated five stars in the Apple store last year, has been shortlisted in the Digital Platform of the Year category. "A completely new experience, so close and so beautiful," said one user.
Wimbledon 2013: Don’t Miss a Moment, has also been shortlisted for Best Use of Social Media, a campaign of tailored content strategies and unique activations which put Wimbledon at the heart of the global social conversation, and resulted in unprecedented growth across Wimbledon's social media portfolio.
Finally, The Championships, Wimbledon, watched by a global TV audience of more than a billion in 2013, is shortlisted in the Sports Brand of the Year category, alongside adidas, The UEFA Champions League, and Manchester United.
"Some predicted a slump in the market following London 2012, but seeing major global brands such as Microsoft and SAP on the Official Shortlist for the very first time is proof of what an exciting time this is for the UK sport industry,” commented Nick Keller, Chairman of the Sport Industry Group. “It has been a transformative year for British sport from a media, marketing and sponsorship perspective, and the wide range of sports on the shortlist is also testament to the strength in depth of the industry. The standard and volume of work entered to the BT Sport Industry Awards this year means being named on this shortlist is an absolutely stellar achievement.”
The shortlist will be considered by the main Judging Panel, who will decide the winners in each category. The results will be announced at the star-studded Sport Industry Awards ceremony on 8 May 2014.
