Entry numbers were at their maximum – 64 boys in qualifying and main draw and 32 girls in qualifying and 64 in the main draw – at the fourth Road to Wimbledon event, which took place on hard courts at the MSLTA HQ in Mumbai.

Many of the juniors were fighting for contention to clinch one of the top 16 places to qualify for the Masters, with the rankings based on points won in the four pre-Masters events.

With the Masters set to take place the week of 6 April, it is now up to the AITA officials to work out which juniors have made the cut.

The Masters will be held at the RK Khanna Tennis Centre in Delhi where the Commonwealth Games was played in 2010 and where I had the privilege to captain the English Team.

The tennis centre is also the HQ of the AITA and boasts many hard courts, an enormous centre court with good on-site accommodation and facilities for the Road to Wimbledon juniors.

The finalists will then be invited to the UK Finals of the HSBC Road to Wimbledon on the week of 10 August on the grass courts of the All England Club.

HSBC Ambassador Tim Henman as well as the Head Coach at Wimbledon Dan Bloxham will be in attendance at the Masters to put the players through clinics and assist with coaching education sessions.

The Mumbai Road to Wimbledon boys’ final saw third seed Vipul Mehta defeat Rhythm Malhotra 7-6 7-6 and in the girls’ draw, top seed Mahak Jain beat second seed Shivani Aminei, the finalist at Calcutta and Chandigarh, 6-3 6-0.
