Caroline Wozniacki: round one
Caroline Wozniacki speaks to the media following her 7-5, 6-0 win over Saisai Zheng. READ MORE

Q. I wanted to ask you about Serena Williams and her pursuit of a possible Grand Slam. When you hear just the idea of her being halfway to the Grand Slam, what are your thoughts about the challenge and her potential to achieve it?

CAROLINE WOZNIACKI: Well, she's won 20 Grand Slams. I think she has the possibility to achieve it. She's obviously playing great tennis. She's obviously an incredible competitor.

So, you know, it's not a fluke that you win 20 Grand Slams. It's already an incredible achievement. You know, we just have to wait and see what happens.

Q. What observations do you have of her motivation and the way she's playing at this stage of her career?

CAROLINE WOZNIACKI: Well, she's obviously very motivated. You see it every time she steps on the practice court. She wants to be better. She wants to do better. I think that's a motivation for me, as well.

She's been No. 1 for so long. She's won so many tournaments, so many Grand Slams. Every time she steps out on the practice court, she wants to be better.

I think, you know, for me to see that is a great inspiration and I want to do better, too.

Q. Over the last few days we've asked men's and women's stars about what they pick out of Serena's play and her approach when they see her on the court that makes her so dominant. When you consider that question, what makes her so dominant, what strikes you the most?

CAROLINE WOZNIACKI: I don't know. Well, obviously she's a great competitor first and foremost. The fact that she can serve wherever she likes at any time of the match. She can pull out three or four aces in a row whenever you feel like you have a chance. That's kind of frustrating as an opponent to her. That's something she's done really well over the years.

Q. How much use do you make of the enormous amounts of data and analysis and statistics that are available after matches? Are you a player that looks at all that stuff, goes over it with your coach?

CAROLINE WOZNIACKI: A little bit, yeah. Obviously it's little things that you can use. It's great. It's great for the game. It's great to track down your opponent, as well, see where they like to serve, where they like to play, all those kind of things.

At the same time, every match is different and you just have to try to play your own game. Then if that doesn't work, you have a Plan B.

Q. Is there a danger you get too caught up with that kind of stuff?

CAROLINE WOZNIACKI: No, I don't personally. Maybe some people do. I don't know.

But I think it's great. It's great to see what you can work on. Sometimes you feel one thing, but in reality it was something completely different. The statistics show you that, black and white.

Q. Did Zheng surprise you in the first set? If not, what do you think happened?

CAROLINE WOZNIACKI: I started off a little bit nervous, I got broken. Then it was hard to break back. You couldn't really see well from one side.

But I managed to just keep my head cool and started to play a little bit better and more consistently. That's really it.

The second set I had total control and played the way I wanted to play.

Q. With your appreciation for different sports, not just tennis, where do you consider Serena among all athletes, male and female, at this time and maybe even in the bigger picture?

CAROLINE WOZNIACKI: I think it's always a tough question to try and compare one athlete from one sport to another. It's like you can say LeBron James, you can say Roger Federer, Novak. It's so hard. They're all so great at their sport and so great and have done so much for the sport, you can't take away one person's achievement by saying the other one is better. At the end of the day they're all great athletes.

You know, I think it's fun to watch other sports and it's fun to see people doing really well at their craft and being exceptional at their sport.

Q. How would you describe Serena, the athlete?

CAROLINE WOZNIACKI: Well, the thing is that Serena's strong, but she's powerful as well, and she's fast. That's a combination that you don't really see much. That's why she's doing so well.
