Hewitt finally waves goodbye
Two defeats on a busy day for Lleyton Hewitt means the former champion plays his last ever match at the All England Club. READ MORE

Six second-round mixed doubles matches were completed late on Monday and the most significant of those results saw Lleyton Hewitt’s Wimbledon career finally come to an end.

After losing his men’s doubles alongside Thanasi Kokkinakis earlier in the day, Hewitt brought the curtain down on a glorious career in SW19 when he bowed out of the mixed doubles alongside Casey Dellacqua.

The Aussie pair started brilliantly, racing through the first set 6-0, but after 68 minutes on Court 18, ninth seeds Juan-Sebastian Cabal and Cara Black prevailed, moving into the third round 0-6, 6-3, 6-3.

The team of Nick Kyrgios and Madison Keys were fancied by many to go deep into the draw, but they too had to accept defeat on Monday when they lost a tight three-setter to No.16 seeds Lukasz Kubot and Andrea Hlavackova 3-6, 7-6(2), 10-8.

The result meant Kyrgios was another Australian who ended the day with two defeats after he lost in four sets to Richard Gasquet in the men’s singles.

Eighth seeds and 2013 Wimbledon champions Daniel Nestor and Kristina Mladenovic made sure they will be back later in the week after beating British duo Ken Skupski and Jo Konta 5-7, 6-1, 6-4.

Elsewhere, Michael Venus and Raluca Olaru beat 15th seeds Henri Kontinen and Zheng Jie 6-4, 6-2, and Robert Lindstedt and Ana Medina Garrigues beat 13th seeds Florin Mergea and Michaella Krajicek 3-6, 6-3, 6-2.

Oliver Marach and Olga Savchuk were another pair to move into the last 16 when they took out 17th seeds David Marrero and Arantxa Parra Santonja 3-6, 6-3, 6-2.
