Second Tuesday - What The Papers Say
Andy Murray's win over the towering Ivo Karlovic allows the newspapers to show some creativity. READ MORE

"Hawk-Eye the Noo," was the headline in The Sun that saluted Andy Murray's progress to the last eight at Wimbledon.

This is how Dan King summed it all up: "Andy Murray hailed Hawk-Eye for helping him to victory over 6ft 11in giant Ivo Karlovic. But Novak Djokovic's Wimbledon title defence hangs in the balance after bad light halted his last-16 clash with Kevin Anderson at two sets apiece.

"Murray challenged a line call at a crucial moment in the fourth set as tensions rose in his titanic tussle with Croat hulk Karlovic. He roared with delight as replays showed that the ball was out by two millimetres - handing him the break that turned the match."

The Sun's Steven Howard also dealt with Murray's win with this opening paragraph: "This was the Scottish version of Jack the Giant Killer. Jock the Giant Killer."

In the Daily Mirror Dave Kidd assessed the match: "You really should not attempt to lob a 6ft 11in player without the aid of Sherpa. Yet the intrepid Andy Murray lobbed the mountainous Ivo Karlovic time and again."

And Murray was quoted as saying: "It's not like I just use the lob against him. It's good against all guys that get close to the net."

In another men's singles on Monday, Australian Nick Kyrgios was reported by Ben Rumsby in the Daily Telegraph as angrily denying claims he stopped trying at one point as he took on France's Richard Gasquet.

Rumsby said: "Kyrgios was as volcanic in his press conference as he had been on court where his performance displayed his brilliance and petulance in equal measure.

"He rowed with the umpire over changing his socks, repeatedly smacked a ball against his own forehead and even hugged a ball boy at one stage."

Meanwhile on the Centre Court the match between the top-seeded Serena Williams and her sister Venus drew this quote afterwards from Venus: "We have played a lot through the years and tried to be entertaining.

"We won't be playing for ever but clearly we are playing at a very high level now. When that moment is over, it will be over. It isn't now."
