Museum & Tour Accessibility

The AELTC endeavours to provide a high standard of accessible facilities for visitors with a disability, including those using a wheelchair.

The Museum and Museum Shop has step-free access. The Tour has a step-free route available; please contact us for further details.

Accessing the Grounds via public transport

By Bus
The 493 bus service links Wimbledon Station (South West Trains, London Underground District line, Tram Link) and Southfields Station (London Underground District line) to the Museum.

The 493 service is provided by NCP Challenger and runs single deck buses mostly with wheelchair access.

The bus stops are immediately outside the Museum.

By Taxi
From Wimbledon station. Drop off & pick up points outside the Museum (Gate 4).

By Car
Provision is made for Blue Badge parking close to the Museum from August to May – ask Security for directions. In May, June and July, please call us to check on  +44 (0)20 8946 6131 to check the availability in advance.

Access to the Museum and Shop

Automatic doors give access to the Wimbledon Shop where displays are within reach of all visitors, and a low level counter provides a service point for users of wheelchairs.

We recommend that an appropriate number of carers accompany those who require assistance.

Entry to the Museum is via stairs or lift (DDA compliant) to the floor below.

Seating is provided at various points around the Museum, and the displays are positioned for use by wheelchair users.

The 3D cinema has dedicated spaces for wheelchairs.

Accessible toilets are provided in the Museum Shop.

In the event of an emergency evacuation, wheelchair refuges are provided with communication, and staff are trained to effect evacuation by means of Evacuation Chairs.

Tours of the Grounds

The Tour of the Grounds takes about 90 minutes. The route includes many steps which some might find challenging. An alternative step-free route is available; please contact us on +44 (0)20 8946 6131 for further details.

Refreshments

The Wingfield Cafe is separate from the Museum Building and is generally reached by external steps. Alternative lift access is provided for wheelchairs, buggies and for those who find steps difficult.

Accessible toilet and low level service counters are provided within the café.
