Literacy: Sport Report 1922
45 years after the first Championships ‘New Wimbledon’ opened on its present site, but as television news was still 34 years away, how did Wimbledon tell the world? Cinema news was all the rage in the 1920s and with the use of historic photographs and documents from the Museum’s collection pupils will write and perform a vintage ‘Pathé News’ style commentary for a cinematic newsreel of the first outing for the now iconic, Centre Court.

History: Victorians, Sport & Wimbledon
When six men from the Field Newspaper came to Wimbledon to start a Croquet Club in 1868, they found a very different Wimbledon to today, with more farm fields than tennis courts. Delving into the archives of the Museum pupils discover for themselves what life was like in Victorian Wimbledon and why the area was chosen for the club. With the help of vintage objects, a government census and a lively costumed debate, pupils will travel back in time to uncover the story of the early Championships.

Art: Tennis T-Shirts
The Championships logo is recognised worldwide but does it say Wimbledon to you?
Taking inspiration from the Museum’s unrivalled collection of tennis memorabilia, pupils will design their own, bespoke, logo to be drawn on the front of their very own t-shirt. The t-shirts will be ready to take home at the end of the session
