Bryans claim first Olympic doubles gold

American twins Bob and Mike Bryan have captured the one prize to have eluded their decorated career – an Olympic gold medal – after holding off French pair Jo-Wilfried Tsonga and Michael Llodra 6-4, 7-6(2) in the men’s doubles final on Wimbledon’s Centre Court.

The top seeds followed in Serena Williams’s footsteps to complete a career golden slam and make it two from two for Team USA in gold medal play-offs at Wimbledon on Saturday.

Tsonga and Llodra will be left to rue their missed chances, failing to convert on any of their six break point opportunities, but would be proud of their final efforts having scraped through a 6-3, 4-6, 18-16 marathon against Spaniards David Ferrer and Feliciano Lopez only a day before.

Earlier on Saturday, their countrymen Julien Benneteau and Richard Gasquet collapsed on to the grass of No.1 Court after inflicting further agony on the Spanish pair, beating them 76(4), 62 in 1hr 20mins.

It ensured France would finish the men’s doubles event with two of the three medals.
