Del Potro rebounds to take bronze
Argentina's Juan Martin del Potro has rebounded from the disappointment of losing a marathon semi-final to win the Olympic bronze medal play-off over Serbian Novak Djokovic 7-5, 6-4 after 1hr 28min.
In a tight two sets of tennis, the eighth seed hit 21 winners to Djokovic's 28 but kept his unforced error count two below his opponent's 15.
Tellingly, del Potro converted two of his six break point opportunities, with Djokovic unable to convert on any of his six chances.
It caps an impressive finish for del Potro after the agony of his near four-and-a-half-hour 3-6, 7-6, 19-17 loss to Roger Federer in the semi-finals.
