Srebotnik and Petrova look the part in doubles
Slovenia's Katarina Srebotnik and Russia's Nadia Petrova were the highest seeds to progress through to the quarter-finals of the Ladies' Doubles on Monday. The third seeds eased passed China's Zheng Jie and America's Vania King in straight sets, 6-3, 6-2, on Court 5.
Srebotnik is someone who knows what it takes to win a doubles crown at Wimbledon. In 2011 she partnered Kveta Peschke, of the Czech Republic, to the Ladies' title.
Interestingly, Srebotnik will face her former partner, Peschke, and Germany's Anna-Lena Groenefeld in the last eight after they came through against Eugenie Bouchard and Petra Martic, 6-4, 6-4.
In the other half of the draw, the fourth seeds and Russian compatriots Ekaterina Makarova and Elena Vesnina, a 2010 finalist, lost to Serbian pair Mirjana Lucic-Baroni, who beat Monica Seles on her way to the singles semi-finals in 1999, and Jelena Jankovic, who is best remembered at Wimbledon for winning the Mixed Doubles competition in 2007 alongside Britain's Jamie Murray.
Lucic-Baroni and Jankovic will face Taipei's Su-Wei Hsieh and China's Shuai Peng in the next round following their comfortable 6-4, 6-4 victory over Darija Jurak and Tamarine Tanasugarn.
Japan's Shuko Aoyama and South Africa's Chanelle Scheepers came through in three hard fought sets against Liezel Huber and Sania Mirza to potentially set up a clash against No.1 seeds Sara Errani and Roberta Vinci or Julia Goerges and Barbora Zahlavova Strycova.
Elsewhere, 12th seeds and Australians Ashleigh Barty and Casey Dellacqua beat fifth seeds and US pair Raquel Kops-Jones and Abigail Spears, 6-4, 6-1.
In the last 16, they could play either Spanish pair Silvia Soler-Espinosa and Carla Suarez Navarro or Andrea Hlavackova and Lucie Hradecka.
